Intern Crew
Black Deaf Project Intern role is an academic-year (September-May) internship for Deaf, hard of hearing, DeafBlind, Deaf +, late deafened or signing hearing Students of Color enrolled in higher education (e.g.,university, community college and/or trade school). We are open to students from various majors, including but not limited to Deaf Studies, Education, Liberal Studies, Black Studies, Ethnic Studies, Business, and Marketing. BDP’s internship program is designed to provide behind the scenes non-profit experience, an opportunity to engage and work with the Deaf community, and educational training for students interested in supporting/promoting the BDP’s mission.
Eligibility

A candidate must be either an undergraduate or graduate student, or have graduated from college within 6 months of beginning the internship.

Committed to attending virtual trainings, events, meetings, and retreats,

Must commit to working a full academic year (Sept-May).

The position is open to students from any state.

Cimone Bell

She is currently in her last semester at Cal State University Long Beach majoring in American Sign Language (ASL) Linguistics. In the future, She hopes to become a skilled ASL interpreter with two goals in mind: To help represent the Black Deaf community and to create more Deaf friendly and accessible spaces in our hearing centric world.
Taylor Taylor

She attends Cerritos College as an American Sign Language (ASL)major. She is in her last year of community college, and hopes to transfer in 2024 to enroll into a California State University in the fall of 2024. In the future , I hope to become an ASL Interpreter to bring more black faces to the interpreting space and help make Deaf voices more visible and heard in the world.
Cheyenne Ward

She is majoring in Deaf Studies at California State University in Northridge. I am thankful for my department chair and faculty from the CSUN Deaf Studies department for providing wonderful support and so many opportunities. After graduating with a bachelor degree, I may apply for a job in Utah to work with the DeafBlind community or become a teaching assistant in Northern California.
Ny’kel Best

She grew up here in Riverside, California hometown. She graduated from California School for the Deaf, Riverside (CSDR) as Class of 2020. She currently attending college at Mt. San Antonio College (Mt.SAC) in Walnut, CA. She is a senior. Her major is sociology, and her goal is to push BIPOC youth to become advocates and leader. She wants to support them in developing their self - esteem, stepping out of their comfort zone, building self - confidence, and developing who they are. Youth are very important and key to our success in the future. She looking forward to working with our internship crew 2023-2024!
